Workspace Lighting

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

There is a lot of discussion on the web about calibrating one’s monitor and printer, but the subject of workspace lighting is generally neglected. But workspace lighting can have a significant effect on the perception of color both on screen and especially in print. I find an article describing the research done and the results of getting proper lighting in a workspace. Its called Lighting Your Workspace written by kevin Mills.

the DAM book…

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

following my study of iView, I came on the DAM book. I have not read it already but I have understand some of it’s concept :

  • I’m certainly going to adopt his ‘bucket’ system for storing original and derivative files. This makes archiving to DVD so much easier than creating directories for each shoot. It was worth buying the book for this tip alone.
  • I will be finding another DAM solution (iView Media Pro is looking favourite).
  • There is no perfect solution at the moment.

I’m still formulating my exact ‘new’ workflow but I have started re-organising my files into buckets. I will then be ready to move to whichever DAM solution I decide to use.

iview media pro

Always looking for some backup/management/etc photo software, I heard of Iview Media Pro. So I decided to evaluate it. In the same time I heard of “The DAM book”, a really neat book on about all that sort of things… I came with the idea of “bucket brigade” !! a very sweet concept to make backup more simple ! I need to try it !
